Video control/-surveillance
The sign indicates video control/-surveillance.
When you see the sign
Be aware that the area or stretch of road is subject to video control or video surveillance. Continue to follow signs and traffic rules; the sign itself does not require you to reduce your speed or stop.
Rules
- The sign indicates that the area or stretch of road is subject to video control or video surveillance.
- The sign does not introduce a separate speed limit or change an existing posted speed limit.
- The sign does not prohibit driving, require you to stop, or impose a duty to give way.
- Video control or video surveillance is not necessarily the same as automatic speed enforcement.
Tips
- Do not brake suddenly just because you see the sign; instead, make sure your speed is legal and appropriate for the conditions.
- Look out for other signs indicating speed limits, lane use or other obligations.
- In tunnels and busy areas, pay extra attention to incidents and signals, as cameras are often used for traffic monitoring and incident detection.
Common misconceptions
- Assuming that the sign always warns of automatic speed enforcement.
- Assuming that the sign introduces a specific speed limit.
- Confusing information about surveillance with an instruction to stop or use a particular lane.

Theory test tip
In the theory test, the trap may be to automatically interpret a camera symbol as speed enforcement. Its correct meaning is simply that video control or video surveillance is taking place; any speed limits must be indicated by other rules or signs.
Did you know
Sign 558 is an information sign, not a prohibition or hazard sign. Video surveillance is used, among other things, in tunnels and on busy stretches of road to detect incidents and monitor traffic flow.

Do I have to reduce my speed when I see the sign?
