Bathing place
The sign indicates that there is a bathing place at or near the road.
When you see the sign
The sign indicates that there is a bathing area at or near the road. Continue as normal if you are not going there, or follow any arrow and distance indication if you want to use the bathing area. Avoid braking sharply, and only turn off when it is safe to do so.
Rules
- The sign is a service sign indicating that there is a bathing area at or near the road.
- The sign does not require you to stop or turn off.
- The sign does not in itself give permission to park; parking must comply with other signs and road markings.
- Any arrow or distance indication shows the direction to, or the distance to, the bathing area.
- The sign does not mean that the bathing area is staffed, supervised or safe in all conditions.
Tips
- Look early for any arrow or distance indication so that you have time to position the vehicle correctly before the turn-off.
- Brake gradually and use your indicators well in advance if you are turning off towards the bathing area.
- Watch out for pedestrians, children and parked vehicles near the access road.
- Find a legal parking space instead of stopping in the carriageway or somewhere your vehicle could create a hazard or obstruction.
Common misconceptions
- Some people think the sign requires the driver to stop, but it only provides information about a service.
- Some interpret the sign as a guarantee that there is a lifeguard, toilet or parking, but such facilities do not automatically follow from the sign.
- Some confuse the symbol with other service signs, even though the image shows a person swimming.

Theory test tip
In the theory test, the common trap is to interpret the sign as imposing a requirement or providing a guarantee. Its correct meaning is simply that there is a bathing area at or near the road.
Did you know
The wording “at or near the road” means that the bathing area is not necessarily visible or located right next to the sign. The direction or distance may therefore be indicated alongside the sign.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to reduce my speed when I see the sign?
The sign does not require any specific reduction in speed. However, you must adjust your speed if there are many pedestrians, children, parked vehicles or an obstructed access road in the area.
Does the sign mean that I can park at the bathing area?
No, the sign does not grant permission to park. You must follow separate parking signs, road markings and the general rules on stopping and parking.
Is the bathing area always staffed or approved for swimming?
No, the sign only indicates that there is a bathing area. It says nothing about a lifeguard, water quality, opening hours or other facilities.
Is the bathing area always located immediately behind the sign?
No, it may be at or near the road. Look for an arrow, distance indication or other local signs showing where to drive.
