Fast charging of motor vehicles
The sign indicates that fast charging of motor vehicles is available at or near the road.
When you see the sign
The sign indicates that fast charging for motor vehicles is available at or near the road. If you are going to charge, reduce your speed in a controlled manner, follow any directional signs and position yourself correctly before the exit.
Rules
- Skilt 609 is a service sign indicating that fast charging for motor vehicles is available at or near the road.
- The sign does not require you to stop or charge.
- The sign itself does not grant any right to park; you must follow parking signs, supplementary plates and road markings at the charging site.
- You must still follow the applicable speed limit and other signs when driving into or out of the charging site.
Tips
- Look for a distance indication, arrow or other directional information showing where the charging site is located.
- Brake early and use your turn signal if you are going to turn off towards the charging site.
- Check that the charging post and connector are compatible with your vehicle before parking in a charging space.
- Read the local terms regarding payment, time limits and requirements for active charging.
Common misconceptions
- Some people confuse the sign with Skilt 610 Drivstoff, but Skilt 609 indicates fast charging, not a regular petrol or diesel station.
- Some people think the sign guarantees that a charger is available or working. It only indicates that fast charging is available at or near the road.
- Some people assume that anyone can park freely by the charger, even though supplementary plates or local terms may restrict its use.

Theory test tip
In the theory test, the trap may be to choose vehicle workshop or fuel. Look for the charging symbol: The sign indicates fast charging at or near the road, but does not require the driver to stop.
Did you know
Skilt 609 is a separate service sign for fast charging and makes it possible to distinguish charging facilities from Skilt 610, which indicates fuel.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to stop when I see the sign?
No. It is a service sign providing information about a facility, not an instruction to stop.
Does the sign mean that the charging station is right next to the sign?
Not necessarily. Fast charging is available at or near the road, and an arrow, distance indication or other directional information may show the exact location.
Can I park by the charger without charging?
This is determined by the signs, road markings and terms at the site. Skilt 609 alone does not grant any special right to park.
Does the sign guarantee that the charger is compatible with my vehicle?
No. The sign indicates fast charging, but not necessarily the connector type, power output, payment solution or availability.
