When you see the sign
Sign 771 shows the way to an airport. Follow the arrow, destination and any lane information shown on the sign, and move into the correct lane well in advance if you are heading there.
Rules
- The sign indicates the direction to or location of an airport.
- The sign is a direction-sign symbol and does not, by itself, require you to turn or choose a particular road.
- When the symbol appears on a direction board or directional sign, it must be read together with the arrow, place name and any lane information.
- The sign does not change the speed limit, give way rules or any other traffic regulations at the location.
Tips
- Look for the arrow and any text early, as large airports often have several access roads and terminal areas.
- Move into the correct lane before the exit, especially when the symbol is part of a lane-direction sign or overhead direction sign.
- After turning off towards the airport, follow the subsequent signs to the correct area, such as the terminal, car park or car rental area.
- Do not make a sudden turn if you notice the exit too late; continue safely and find a new legal route.

Theory test tip
A common trap is to interpret the sign as a warning sign for air traffic. In the theory test, you should recognise it as a direction sign to an airport and read the direction from the arrow or board on which it appears.
