Bus station/bus terminal
When you see the sign
The sign indicates that there is a bus station or bus terminal at the location or in the direction shown. Adjust your speed and pay particular attention to buses entering or leaving, as well as pedestrians who may cross the carriageway.
Rules
- Sign 773 is a location sign showing the location of, or direction to, a bus station or bus terminal.
- The sign does not automatically give buses priority; the right of way is determined by the traffic rules, other signs, road markings and any traffic lights.
- The sign is not the same as sign 512 «Holdeplass for buss», which marks a regular bus stop and is associated with specific parking rules.
- You may not park or stop in breach of other signs, road markings or traffic rules, even if you are picking someone up or dropping someone off at the terminal.
- If the terminal area has dedicated lanes or areas reserved for buses, you must follow the signs and must not enter if this is prohibited.
Tips
- Look early for arrows, directional signs or an entrance indicating where the terminal is actually located.
- Be prepared for large vehicles with wide turning angles and limited visibility at the entrance and exit.
- Reduce your speed in areas with many passengers, especially where pedestrians move between the terminal, pavements and car parks.
- Check the signs and road markings before entering the terminal area, as parts of it may be reserved for public transport.
Common misconceptions
- Assuming that the sign marks an ordinary bus stop. It indicates a bus station or bus terminal, while a bus stop is marked with sign 512.
- Assuming that the sign itself gives buses priority or imposes a specific duty to give way on car drivers.
- Assuming that private cars can always enter and park at the terminal; local signs may reserve areas for buses, taxis or brief drop-off and pick-up.

Did you know
The sign is used to make important public transport hubs easier to find and may be included in local directional signage both in urban areas and at regional bus terminals.
Frequently asked questions
Do I always have to give way to a bus leaving a bus terminal?
No, not because of sign 773 alone. The duty to give way must be assessed according to the traffic rules and any signs, road markings or traffic lights at the location.
Can I park by the sign to pick up a passenger?
Sign 773 does not in itself permit parking. You must follow the other signs, road markings and rules governing stopping and parking in the terminal area.
Is this the same as a bus stop sign?
No. Sign 773 indicates a bus station or bus terminal, while sign 512 marks a bus stop.
Can I drive into the bus terminal itself?
Only if other signs and road markings permit it. Many terminals have lanes or areas reserved for buses and other public transport.
