Ski resort
When you see the sign
Sign 790.30 indicates the road to a ski resort. If you are going there, follow the arrow, the distance and any lane indications on the direction sign; if you are going somewhere else, continue according to the other signs.
Rules
- The symbol indicates a ski resort as a destination or locality.
- The symbol is normally used together with direction signs, and the direction is determined by the arrow or the layout of the sign on which it appears.
- The sign does not in itself require you to turn or choose a particular lane.
- The sign does not change the speed limit, give way rules, right of way or rules on stopping and parking.
Tips
- Look for an arrow and any distance indication, not just the ski resort symbol.
- Move into the correct lane early if the symbol appears on a lane or gantry direction sign.
- Be prepared for queues and turning traffic near the exit, especially during the winter season.
- Do not brake sharply if you notice the exit too late; instead, continue to a place where you can turn around legally and safely.
Common misconceptions
- Thinking that the sign warns of a ski slope or skiers directly in the carriageway. It shows the road to a ski resort.
- Interpreting the symbol as an instruction to turn. It is only relevant to road users travelling to the destination shown.
- Ignoring the arrow or lane position and simply following the ski symbol itself.

Theory test tip
In the theory test, the trap may be interpreting the sign as a warning sign or a mandatory sign. Its correct meaning is direction to a ski resort, while the arrow and the rest of the sign's layout show where you should drive.
Did you know
The symbol makes it possible to recognise a ski resort quickly on direction signs, even when the driver does not know the name of the resort.
Frequently asked questions
Does the sign mean that there may be skiers on the road?
No. The sign shows the road to a ski resort and is not a warning sign for skiers in the carriageway.
Do I have to turn when I see the sign?
No. Only road users travelling to the ski resort should follow the direction signs. Others should follow the signs towards their own destination.
Does the symbol show that the ski resort is right next to the sign?
Not necessarily. The resort may be further ahead or along a side road, so you must read the arrow and any distance indicated on the direction sign.
Does the sign indicate a separate speed limit?
No. The applicable speed limit is indicated by separate speed-limit signs or by the general speed limits.
